Looking for hands-on experience in translation, localisation or project management?

Comunica’s internship programme gives students the chance to see how a professional localisation agency really works – from the inside. You’ll work alongside our international team, receive practical training and gradually get involved in real projects for international clients.

We offer two main internship tracks:

Translation & Localisation Internship
For students who want to develop their skills as professional linguists and learn about the tools, processes and quality standards used in the localisation industry. We work primarily with Nordic (Danish, Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian), Dutch, German and French students.

Project Management Internship
For students interested in international communication, coordination and the operational side of localisation.

Our main office is in Fuengirola, Málaga, on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

Translation & Localisation Internship

Our Translation & Localisation Internship is designed for students who want to turn their academic language skills into practical, professional experience.

You won’t just be working through theoretical exercises. Instead, you’ll get to see how translation and localisation projects are handled in a real agency environment – and learn the skills you need to become part of that process yourself.

During your internship, you will gain experience with:

  • Translation, editing and proofreading
  • Professional CAT tools and localisation platforms
  • Translation memories, terminology and glossaries
  • Quality assurance and linguistic review
  • Client-specific style guides and instructions
  • Different content types and industries
  • AI-supported and machine translation workflows
  • The complete lifecycle of a professional localisation project

You’ll start with training and supervised tasks, then gradually take on more responsibility as you become familiar with our tools, clients and ways of working.

Typical duration: 4–12 months.

This track is particularly suitable for students studying translation, languages, linguistics or communication.

Project Management Internship

Localisation is about much more than translation. Behind every multilingual project is a project manager bringing together clients, linguists, deadlines, budgets, technology and quality – and making sure everything runs smoothly.

Our Project Management Internship gives you practical experience of this side of the industry.

You will learn how to:

  • Set up and coordinate localisation projects
  • Work with professional project management and localisation systems
  • Communicate with clients, translators and other stakeholders
  • Prepare projects for translators and reviewers
  • Manage deadlines, workflows and project requirements
  • Perform quality checks before delivery
  • Coordinate multilingual projects across different markets
  • Work with budgets, word counts and project specifications
  • Solve the everyday challenges that arise during international projects

You do not need to be studying translation to apply for the Project Management Internship. Students from areas such as international business, communication, languages and project management can also be a great fit.

Typical duration: 6–12 months.

You’ll begin with structured training and shadowing before gradually starting to work on projects yourself, with support from our experienced project managers whenever you need it.

Learn With Us in Málaga

Our main office is in Fuengirola, on Spain’s Costa del Sol, where our international team works together in a relaxed, friendly and professional environment.

Whenever possible, we strongly recommend completing the internship in person.

Localisation is a collaborative industry, and we’ve found that interns learn much faster when they can sit alongside experienced colleagues, ask questions as they come up, shadow real projects and become part of the team’s everyday workflow.

And, of course, there’s another advantage: you’ll get to experience life on the Costa del Sol while working in an international environment where English, Spanish, Nordic languages and other European languages are all part of everyday life.

Can I Intern Remotely?

Yes. Remote internships can be considered when relocating to Spain is not possible, provided that you spend at least thee first couple of weeks with us on site for your introductory training.

That said, our preference is always for interns to spend as much of their internship as possible with us in Fuengirola. We find that training, communication and the overall learning experience are simply much more effective when you’re here with the team.

We’re always happy to discuss what arrangement could work for you and your university.

What You’ll Gain

An internship at Comunica is designed to help bridge the gap between university and professional life.

Depending on your internship track, you can gain:

  • Hands-on experience with real international projects
  • Training in professional localisation and CAT tools
  • An understanding of how a localisation agency operates
  • Experience communicating and collaborating in an international team
  • Practical knowledge of professional workflows and quality processes
  • Increasing responsibility as your skills develop
  • Exposure to different areas of the localisation business
  • Professional experience for your CV
  • A reference following successful completion of your internship

Most importantly, we don’t expect you to know everything when you arrive. Otherwise, we’d have nothing to teach you, and that would kind of defeat the point

You’ll begin with training and plenty of guidance. From there, you’ll move gradually from learning and shadowing → working alongside the team → completing tasks under supervision → taking on greater responsibility independently.

We want you to leave Comunica not just knowing more about localisation, but feeling confident about taking your next steps in the industry.
